heel pain.
Understand where it starts.

Pain under your heel is often called heel spur. That name doesn't always tell us what's causing the symptoms. The plantar fascia under the foot can play a role; other causes are also possible.

Explore the cause first

We discuss where and when you feel pain, how long you have symptoms and what walking or standing does to you. A visible heel trace on a photo is not automatically the cause of the pain.

The basis of the plan

The approach can consist of explanation, adjustment of load and targeted exercises. What suits you depends on your research and previous treatments.

Where does shockwave fit?

The multidisciplinary Dutch guideline mentions shockwave as a possible supplement when explanations and exercises after at least 12 weeks do not help enough with fasciopathy plantar. Also, you haven't had a shockwave within the same disease episode. Thuisarts gives a more cautious advice from the general practitioner's care and does not recommend this treatment. The opinions are therefore not the same. We discuss the basis, uncertainty, possible side effects and alternatives to your situation, with attention to exercises and evaluation.

This information is general. Whether shockwave is appropriate for you requires a personal assessment. There's no guarantee of recovery.
